The tallest skyscraper in Kuwait was built on a site where Kuwait's first cinema was in 20 years in the heart of Kuwait City and is located on Al Shuhada Street and was opened in 2011.

Great Alhambra Design

The design of the southern wall of the steel tower reduces solar radiation as the geometry of the inner wall of the tower works to reduce heat absorption and reflect sunlight to protect the building from environmental conditions and from extreme heat, which is the most famous of what is known by the Arabian Gulf in general and the State of Kuwait in particular and also works as the iconic Al-Hamra Tower as the backbone of the building and the length of the iconic tower is about 400 meters and works as an abaya around the building and increases as we rise upwards, which symbolizes Kuwait's leadership significantly in the Arabian Gulf.

Skidmory designed the iconic tower with a design inspired by the traditional Arabian robes to attract the people of the Gulf, led by large investors, and sometimes the shape of the tower looks more like a dry leaf that has been dried up by the heat of the sun and made it partially involve itself, a wonderful engineering challenge in which engineers have succeeded impressively.

Construction was completed on August 17, 2010 and the tower, offices and commercial complexes were almost completely visible.

The tower consists of a large number of floors, numbering 77 floors, including 5 floors, including underground as a parking lot with an area of 195 thousand square meters.

The tower consists of 3 northern, eastern and western glass facades, and the southern façade is covered with limestone, and some have likened it to a folded paper due to the glass twists that cover some of its parts, which is an attractive view for photographers and others, and the Alhambra Tower project departs from the traditional character of skyscrapers, offering a unique design and the most interesting and impressive for this tower is the reflections of the flat glass facades, which makes the building appear differently every time you look at it and every angle is different all the time.

Cost and financing of Al Hamra Tower

The construction cost was about KD 180 million and the value of the land on which it was built is KD 100 million.

The National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) financed the project with about KD 108 million and the rest was financed by Kuwait's Al Hamra Real Estate Company, the owner of the project.

Engineering Recognition and Awards

The tower won many awards even before the completion of construction, including the award for the best skyscraper project under construction in 2008 in the MIPIM competition, the award for the best design from America, chosen by Time magazine as the best innovative building, and won the award for the tallest skyscraper in 2012, the best building in the Middle East, and the best project implemented by Skidmori in 2013 due to its design and quality of implementation, which are witnessed by the Arab world and the whole world.
